A nutrition label for any video.

AmbiCook adds up the ingredients and amounts it found, then shows calories, fat, carbs, fiber, sugar and protein per serving. Every number is marked as an estimate.

    Why it's different

Recipe videos weren't made to cook from. Now they are.

Other recipe apps start from websites. AmbiCook starts from the videos you already watch, and keeps the video in the kitchen with you.

    Step 3

    Prop up your phone

    Questions

What people ask before they preheat.

Does it work with any cooking video?

AmbiCook looks everywhere a recipe can hide. It listens to what the cook says, then reads the video's description and its comments, where many creators pin the full ingredient list. It combines all three into one recipe with amounts and steps. If a video has no recipe anywhere, AmbiCook tells you right away so you can type it in yourself.

    How accurate are the calories?

More accurate than guessing from a photo. Photo-based calorie apps have to estimate what's on the plate and how much of it there is, and they can't see the butter or oil cooked into the food. AmbiCook starts from the recipe itself: every ingredient, every amount, divided by the number of servings. Manual trackers can be just as precise, but you have to enter each ingredient by hand. AmbiCook does that part for you. Numbers are still labeled as estimates, and you can tap Report an issue if one looks off.

Will I ever need to touch my phone while cooking?

No. Once you start cook mode, you never need your hands again until you're done. Moving between steps, pausing and playing the video, rewinding, asking for amounts and temperatures, saving the meal's calories to your log, and ending the session all happen by voice. The only taps come before you start: pasting a link and picking a recipe.

What devices does it run on?

iPhone first. Android is planned after launch.
